Become Private Investigator in Virginia
Private investigators may not live the exciting life as you may see on movies or on TV shows but it can be a promising career. To become a private investigator in Virginia you will need to meet the following state requirements.
- You have to be 18 years of age and be a citizen of the United States to apply to be a private investigator.
- You will then need to contact the Department of Criminal Justice Services. You will need to ask for the training schools in Virginia that you can intend to get the experience you need to become a private investigator. In the state of Virginia it is required to have at least 60 hours of classroom training. A lot of topics are covered within these 60 hours like how to handle investigations, surveillance and legal procedures.
- You will need to have your fingerprints taken at a local police system. This is to have the identity of private investigators in the system to insure that they do not tamper with evidence. You will also need to go through a background check. This is to make sure you have not been convicted of any crimes. If you have been convicted of any crimes in the past you can turn in a form explaining why you were convicted of the crime. You can get this form from the Department of Criminal Justice Services.
- The next step you need to think about is whether you feel you need a firearm or not. If you think your life will be at risk then you should do the necessary training to get a firearm. Most of the time you will need 14 hours in the classroom to apply to get a fire arm.
After you have completed the above steps to become a private eye in Virginia, send in all documentation to get your license. You may also have to fill out a private security registration application. Make sure you submit your documentation with the proof that you completed at least 60 hours in the classroom.
